One: God, unity.  The circle around an IHS denotes oneness.

Two: The division of untiy.  Duality; opposing poles - left and right. When drawing two candles or two chapels, always rasie one above the other showing the progressive nature of the more virtuous attribute.

Three: Total of the first two numbers: 1+2=3. Most noticable in the Trinity the three fold nature which governs the universe.  The three-fold nature of man: mond, body and soul.  Levaes should always be depicted in threes for the Trinity.  Steps on a cross in threes for Faiht, Hope and Charity.

Four: The earth.   4 Winds, 4 Gospels, 4 rivers of Paradise, 4 Kingdoms of God, 4 corners of the world.

Five: The number of man.  5 senses, 5 wounds of Christ.

Six: Perfection as expressed in the sum of the first 3 numbers: 1+2+3=6.  The number of days of creation.

Seven: 3 (being soul and spirit) + 4 (being body and matter) = 7. 7 ages of man, the 7 virtues, the 7 vices, 7 sorrows, 7 joys (both related to Mary); 7 days of the week, 7 planets, 7 heavens and Do, Ra, Me, Fa, La, Te, Do

Eight: Rebirth. The Resurrection of Christ because He rose on the eight day after entering Jerusalem; and the promised resurrection of mankind. Musically, the octave.  The spiritual goal achieved after passing through the seven heavens. 8 Beatitudes.

Nine: Triple Triad.  9 months from conception to birth.  9 choirs of Angels. 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Ten: The perfect number (not perfection.) because it contains all the numbers. 10 Commandments, 10 virgins and their 10 lamps.

Twelve: Matter times spirit is 3x4.  12 disciples, 12 months to a year, 12 prophets, 12 signs of the Zodiac.

Fifteen: Progress; the number of steps the Virgin Mary climbed when entering the Temple after leaving her parents. The number of groups in a rosary.

Forty: Rain for.......... Christ in the desert for........ What did you give up for the 40 days of Lent? And 40 days between Easter and the Ascension.
